Iron plays a vital role in transporting oxygen throughout your body. When your iron levels are low, your body can't function efficiently—leading to symptoms that are often brushed off as stress or poor sleep. If you're feeling off lately, here are 10 common signs that could point to low iron:

1. Cold Hands and Feet
Poor circulation caused by iron deficiency may leave your extremities feeling icy, even in warm temperatures.
2. Dark Circles Around the Eyes
Lack of oxygenated blood flow due to low iron can cause dark, shadowy circles that don’t improve with rest.
3. Exhausted Even After a Good Night's Sleep
If you wake up tired despite 7–8 hours of sleep, it could be because your cells aren't getting the oxygen they need.
4. Low Energy
Feeling drained throughout the day, with no clear reason, is one of the most common signs of low iron.
5. Gut Inflammation
Chronic iron deficiency can contribute to inflammation in the digestive tract, worsening absorption and compounding the problem.
6. Shortness of Breath
Even light activity may leave you winded—your body compensates for low oxygen by making you breathe harder.
7. Brittle Nails
Iron helps maintain healthy cells, including nail beds. Brittle, weak nails may be an early warning sign.
8. Irregular Bowel Movements
Constipation or irregularity may result from iron deficiency, particularly if your digestive system is already under stress.
9. Feeling Weak
Muscle fatigue and general weakness, even without exercise, can signal low iron impacting your physical strength.
10. Pale Skin
Hemoglobin gives your blood (and skin) its color. If iron is low, your complexion may appear washed out.
