7 Tips to Sleep Better, Naturally

We’ve all heard it before, but it bears repeating: quality sleep is EVERYTHING when it comes to managing stress and balancing your hormones. Here’s the thing — when we’re stressed, our bodies go into fight-or-flight mode, shutting down non-essential functions like digestion. And if you’re not sleeping well, your body can't rest, repair, or digest properly, even if you’re eating the healthiest food. So, let’s fix that.

A few bedtime tips to improve your sleep:

Tip 1:

Eat your last meal before 7 PM: The later you eat, the more likely it will mess with your sleep. Your body’s digestive system gets a break when you give it time to process before bedtime.

Tip 2:

No electronics for 1-3 hours before bed: Trust me, scrolling through social media or binging Netflix before bed is a major sleep disruptor. It messes with melatonin (your sleep hormone) and keeps your brain buzzing when you need to unwind.

Tip 3:

Relax with a bath: Add some Epsom salts for a boost of magnesium — it helps your muscles relax and calms your nervous system.

Tip 4:

Cuddle up and chill: Whether it’s with a loved one or your favorite pet, hugging releases oxytocin, which is a feel-good hormone that helps ease stress. For me, snuggling up to my boyfriend and watching a light comedy (no dark or heavy stuff!) helps me unwind and sleep peacefully.

Tip 5:

Box Breathing: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold for 4 seconds. Repeat. This technique calms your nervous system and helps you regain control of your breath. Head to my blog post Ways To Naturally Relieve Stress to try my short box breathing video.

Tip 6:

Yoga Nidra: This guided meditation is like a deep sleep while you’re still awake — super relaxing and restorative.

Tip 7:

Progressive Relaxation: Start with your toes and work your way up, slowly relaxing each muscle group. It’s perfect for easing tension and calming your mind. Head to my blog post Ways To Naturally Relieve Stress to try my short progressive relaxation video.

Sleep like a Queen and King

So, take a deep breath, practice some meditation, eat a few hours before bed, shut off electronics and surround yourself with people (or pets) who give your comfort. Your body (and hormones!) will thank you.
